Bucks Lake Clan Gathering 2016 - Day 01

We arrived Thursday afternoon on July 28th to find Jeffery and Dorothy already setting up the Clan spaces (which means leaving stuff in each space to establish right of residence).  We are at Haskins Valley Campground - with 4 spaces, 1 for Group gatherings and the rest for homes away from homes.

Jeffery was off to help Barbara and Kathleen (with Andrea Daniels) with the motor home and Auntie Diana over at the group camp.  We got unloaded and set up.  We really wanted to get onto the lagoon as soon as feasible without being anti-social.  It was rather laid back and FFY (Fend For Yourself) for the most part.  After a very easy supper, Jeffery, Dorothy, Grant and I made for the kayaks and paddled around for a little over an hour.  We tried to paddle all the way to the main lake, but gave up about 3/4's of the way there because we knew we still had to paddle home.

Back at camp, Jeffery built a fire in the group space firepit and we all got chairs set up.  Grant and Jeffery decided to set up the carport, which shelters the picnic tables.  We were all in bed by 10, I think.

Day 1 - July 28th

Kathleen greeted us as we pulled into the campground.  That's Barbara in a chair in the background.

Teepee completed.

The story goes like this.  Dorothy walked down to look at the beach and boat launching possibilities on the lagoon near our camp spaces.  Two little girls were down there, wading and swimming.  They told Dorothy, "There's a drop-off here!".  Dorothy thanked them and began slowly wading in.  Sure enough, 3 steps in, she goes in up to her neck.  Wet her cigarettes, she did, too!  I asked her, "Did the little girls laugh?".  She said that it wasn't until she burst out laughing that they were willing to laugh with her.  And in case you're wondering, she is wearing a sleeveless light-colored shirt.

Pollen rings from varying levels of the lake in the last month or so.

Suppertime!  Corn bones and macaroni salad.

We almost made it to the main lake.  The sandy cliffs changed to these rocks about halfway out the inlet.

"Put out that damned light!!!"  (I can hear him say)
