Lake Davis - Day 1 - Mayday!!! Mayday!!!

Dorothy and Jeffery wanted to launch Moby Dick (the white double kayak), so Leslie and I decided to accompany them in our kayaks.  We all set out and headed towards the island.  Leslie said her kayak was hard to handle, but we didn't think anything of it until she asked me if it was okay to have water in the boat.  I said "A little is okay", but she started getting nervous and began using the bailing pump.  It was starting to get scary!
I hollered over to Dorothy and Jeffery, "Mayday!!! Help!!", and they came just as Leslie started to founder.  We later learned that the kayak wouldn't have gone down, but it sure was filling  up with water.  D&J pulled her into their boat and we got the red kayak over to the island, where we discovered a 6 inch tear in the bottom when we pulled it out of the water.  Jeffery got it drained out, then attached a life jacket to the brow and a flotation pillow to the stern, and we towed it back to the beach.  Thankfully, Grant was taking photos and saw our dilemma, so we have it for posterity on film.

Sara and Leslie set out

Okay so far...

Leslie notices water coming into the kayak; steering becomes difficult; fear sets in.

Dorothy and Jeffery happen to be paddling near by

Leslie and I head for the island, calling "Mayday! Mayday!"

Dorothy and Jeffery to the rescue!

Dana and Martin wait on the shore

We make it to the island and get the kayak onto the beach

Putting the kayak back into the water where Jeffery will hitch it to "Moby Dick" with one of my hair ties, a life jacket, and a flotation pillow.

Towing home

It was quite the adventure and Leslie felt badly that she might have damaged the boat, but it was not so.  It was just a seam separation, which Grant fixed with some gorilla tape Martin had and some duct tape that Jeffery had!  All was well!

Lake Davis - Day 1 - Beach, family, kayaks

Travis, Kristine, and Kinley came to spend some time at the beach with us.  It's Kristine's 27th birthday today!  We loved getting to play with Kinley while Daddy and Mommy went off to fish and work on their tans.  Dana and Grant took the kayaks out first.  Then Leslie and I took a turn along with Jeffery and Dorothy in their double kayak (I call it Moby Dick, because it reminds me of a white whale).  See the next post for the tale of our "Adventure".

Lake Davis - Day 1 - We Arrive

Grant and I arrived a little after noon on Saturday, June 27, 2015.  The Wilsons arrived about 45 minutes later as we were setting up.  Interestingly enough, we had Space 27, on the 27th of June, and it was Kristine's 27th birthday today.  She, Travis, and Kinley joined us that afternoon to do a little fishing and relaxing. Dana, Leslie, and Martin also showed up around 2pm.  We all headed to the beach. See my next post for more photos.

Grant and I arrive and start unloading.
