Lake Davis - Day 1 - Mayday!!! Mayday!!!

Dorothy and Jeffery wanted to launch Moby Dick (the white double kayak), so Leslie and I decided to accompany them in our kayaks.  We all set out and headed towards the island.  Leslie said her kayak was hard to handle, but we didn't think anything of it until she asked me if it was okay to have water in the boat.  I said "A little is okay", but she started getting nervous and began using the bailing pump.  It was starting to get scary!
I hollered over to Dorothy and Jeffery, "Mayday!!! Help!!", and they came just as Leslie started to founder.  We later learned that the kayak wouldn't have gone down, but it sure was filling  up with water.  D&J pulled her into their boat and we got the red kayak over to the island, where we discovered a 6 inch tear in the bottom when we pulled it out of the water.  Jeffery got it drained out, then attached a life jacket to the brow and a flotation pillow to the stern, and we towed it back to the beach.  Thankfully, Grant was taking photos and saw our dilemma, so we have it for posterity on film.

Sara and Leslie set out

Okay so far...

Leslie notices water coming into the kayak; steering becomes difficult; fear sets in.

Dorothy and Jeffery happen to be paddling near by

Leslie and I head for the island, calling "Mayday! Mayday!"

Dorothy and Jeffery to the rescue!

Dana and Martin wait on the shore

We make it to the island and get the kayak onto the beach

Putting the kayak back into the water where Jeffery will hitch it to "Moby Dick" with one of my hair ties, a life jacket, and a flotation pillow.

Towing home

It was quite the adventure and Leslie felt badly that she might have damaged the boat, but it was not so.  It was just a seam separation, which Grant fixed with some gorilla tape Martin had and some duct tape that Jeffery had!  All was well!
